My 7 year old son had a root canal and a crown placed on the same day. He had been in pain and unable to sleep or eat the entire day before due to pain. After the procedure we went home and when the numbness wore off he was in so much pain he screamed at times, cried, tossed and turned then entire night and was still unable to eat. I gave him tylenol and motrin for the past 3 days for pain and it NEVER once relieved the pain. The next day i checked him out from school early to take him back where they adjusted the crown and we left. 5 miles down the road he was screaming in so much pain. This is a child that rarely complains of pain. I turned around and went straight back where they informed me we could either \"wait it out\" to see if the nerves woukd respond in a few days and not hurt anymore, or we could extract the tooth and place a spacer seeing that the tooth was in a place that would be affected if a spacer was not put in place. The tooth was extracted, a spacer put in as well as they capped the tooth behind the tooth that was pulled. I asked for ONE dose of a pain reliever so he could go home and rest. He had not slept or ate in the past 2 days! I told the Dentist this MULTIPLE times. She told me she was uncomfortable with giving a child a narcotic and for me to just do Tylenol IF THE EXTRACTION DID NOT RELIEVE THE PAIN!! So a 7 year old has not slept or ate in 2 days due to pain, he has had a root canal, a crown, an adjustment, an extraction, a spacer placed and a tooth capped all within the last 2 days and you cannot give him ONCE dose of pain meds? And you're not \"comfortable\" with giving a child a narcotic but when you \"sedate\" these kids in this office for procedures you use Valium (or something in the family of valium) A grown adult woukd have a hard time going through what he has in the past 2 days. I am appalled and disgusted that a facility has basically disregarded the pain level and physical well being of my child. Not even to mention that the extraction place was not packed with anything to prevent dry socket. I feel like I was looked at as a disgrace for even considering or asking a dentist for ONE dose of pain meds. I will NEVER take another child of mine to this facility. I have 4, between my family and friends that i have shared this story with, they have lost about 20 patients. Do I also need to upload my son currently sitting beside me in tears because he has bitten his jaw and lip? We will see after the numbness wears off if he has any relief or if we will go on night 3 of no sleep or food. Since they \"hope\" this was the problem and extracting the tooth was the answer. ZERO stars for my experience!
