How Patients Feel

1I went to Dr. Altshul for a root canal, which was recommended by both my regular dentist AND an endodontist, to bleach a traumatized tooth that got dark. By the time I made up my mind to get it done, I couldn't use the first endodontist because he no longer accepted my insurance. So, here I was, a sitting duck for Dr. Altshul to shoot down for money. Instead, Dr. Altshul, looking at the X-ray the other endodontist took, told me I did not have any canal left to do a root canal on!! He told me that bleaching wouldn't work on my tooth. He explained to me my options, and answered my questions fully. None of these included his services unless something bad happened in the process. If my insurance covered the other endodontist, or if I had decided to shell out my own money with that endodontist, I would have been out by quite a few hundred dollars, an unnecessary root canal and a bleach job, and a tooth still dark. Since I didn't have any procedure done, I have no idea how his skills are with the actual root canals. But his honesty is astounding and I so appreciate it. That's probably why he was even ahead of schedule: no wait whatsoever, and I had a choice of going in earlier than my appointment time (but I didn't take it, and they weren't even trying to make me: I accidentally found it out when I called in to make sure my records had arrived from the other endodontist) . They had set aside enough time to have a root canal done for me. Dr. Ashutl said I was the third patient with the same case the same morning. He probably had set aside enough time for those other two patients for a root canal, and let both go without, just like he did with me. Having had to wait a long time at other medical offices due to their chronic over-scheduling, it is simply astounding. I pray that Dr. Ashtul stays in business for a long time, in case I need a root canal in the future.
