Healthpark Dentistry

I called Health Park Dentistry on Fri 1-2-2016 for my 2 year old daughter routine appt, appt the following week on 1-8-2016 swift appt set Explained I was in between insurances to the receptionist but had Medicaid Caresource for my daughter, but since they don't take that we both confirmed this would definitely be cash pay. At the beginning of the appointment until the end Dr. Mason female assistant was very polite and great with our daughter and commented how relaxed my daughter was for her age 2.5. She applied fluoride with tooth brush, counted his teeth with a dental instrument when asked if she would do the cleaning (as adults receive w/ scaling plaque off) she explained that children do not require that as they do not have calcification. (we were charged 34.50 for the exam, 35.00 for the Professional cleaning, and 15.00 for fluoride in office application) she only performed exam and flouride application with tooth brush, no cleaning unless that was flouride Our dental orthodontist friend(back home) pridefully told us how she had cleaned a one year olds teeth before. But obviously not scaling is a health park policy. Dr. Mason came sat down introduced himself put the magnifying spectacles on and looked up and said " you have care source correct?" To which we replied that is correct (but we are self pay) He continued "It should all be free covered 100%" - "She needs 8 crowns and a root canal" "Caresource will cover the white front crowns" he continues quickly "Daytons Childrens hospital do 15 or 16 a day under general anesthesia" He explained he is going to refer us to Dr Jackson his buddy and works on these (medicaid) cases every day ( we are both full time students and applied for medicaid only for our daughters sake for the 6 months we are here attending the welding school) That was the end of our 3 minutes with him. 5 minutes before with assistant. On the print out plan says need 8 crowns 4 of them are the front teeth and other 4 are molars. The reason why Dr. Mason caught us off guard is that he assumed we had care source even though we were self pay did not mention to him, (only mentioned to receptionist casually when making the appt, maybe self pay equals medicaid? or its a coincidence I'm sure) He spent under 3 minutes it was so awkwardly short with no low radiation x-rays to confirm Dr. Mason did not point out the cavities ...Or ask us to take a look at what he was talking about. Surely if they were so terrible in requirement of needing 8 Crowns (4 of them front teeth) we would be able see them. Dr. Kyle Jackson (the dentist Mason ref) was covered on the Caresource website, a list of about 20 dental listings came up. with suggested dentists Dr. Mason and Dr Kyle Jackson had identical dental location addresses aside from Mason at health park. Without sounding like conspiracy theorist I think it is strange to take self pay patients and refer them to another practice we have no problem paying for great dentistry its better to have a dentist that is more expensive for you but that you an trust you are in good hands. While I am confused whether he was referring us to his friend that takes medicaid because we temporarily have it, I am also confused as to why the carecours website has him listed as a dentist at another practice at Dr. Kyle Jacksons location to which he ref us. I doubt he is working at 2nd practice that he is taking patients from the HP dentistry location and sending them to another place. Maybe he was trying to send us to someone that would except the insurance that we have. Maybe he used to work for the place he referred us to and knows they accept medicaid, and that he is helping Us, His friend, and himself. We were offered advice from a 2nd dentist to get an X-ray, and 2nd opinion. It is very important to er on the side of caution with children no one wants to be the parent in the ER with a toddler and an abscess tooth swollen face. Equally important General anesthesia and 8 crowns and baby root canal without any visible cavities seems extreme. Will update soon.
