It\'s difficult to figure out which doctor to see about TMJ problems and facial pain and decide on the right treatment. It can be unclear whether it\'s a medical or dental issue. From my experience, seeing an orofacial pain specialist such as Dr. Abbott is better than seeing dentists who also do TMJ treatment as part of their regular practice. Before finding Dr. Abbott I saw dentists who recommended that I get expensive and probably unneeded orthodontics and procedures. For example, a dentist provided an expensive bite adjustment that didn\'t help. By contrast, Dr. Abbott correctly diagnosed my problem, took a systematic and conservative approach, and referred me to other doctors for related treatment. He\'s a caring person who provides the time needed to understand your situation and his staff are very helpful. He\'s also a Blue Cross medical provider so procedures such as injections are much less expensive than what you would pay at other dentists\' offices.
