Dr. Patricia Stephens is one of the nicest dentists I've ever met. After hitting a nerve, which was painful but forgivable, her staff got defensive and told me that it wasn't possible to have an infection in my tooth. I was referred to a specialist at my expense. The specialist determined both infection and nerve damage and prescribed antibiotics & steroids, at my expense. I've already had 1 root canal on my molar, which has failed and will result in extraction - again at my expense. Per the endo specialist 3rd opinion, I am in need of at least 3 more root canals. The office manager charged my insurance for the in-network price (choosing the most expensive treatment options) and billed me for the out of network price, costing me several hundred dollars out of pocket, maxing my benefit for the year and causing me to postpone additional treatment until the new year, while in pain. My friends that referred me to her need a combined total of 9 root canals for the fillings she did.
