He began his career as a laboratory technologist. When he was twelve years old, he began working in his fathers’ dental lab after school. He continued in the laboratory industry throughout college and for several years afterward, developing his skills and reputation as a ceramist, laboratory manager, consultant, and lecturer. At the age of thirty, he made the decision to go to dental school.
Dr. Sousa graduated from New York University College of Dentistry in 1989 followed by a residency in Cranio Mandibular Disorders also at NYU.
A dedicated contributor to dental education, Dr. Sousa is an Attending Doctor at North Shore University Hospital‘s department of dentistry where he teaches and supervises resident doctors. Additionally, he is a lecturer at the Master Dental Technologist Program at New York University.
He is a sought-after lecturer who teaches other dentists and technologists about the role of function in cosmetic, restorative and implant dentistry. He has lectured extensively and has regularly been invited to speak at The Greater New York Dental Meeting, one of the largest dental meetings in the world, as well as many local dental societies and study groups.
Dr Sousa has achieved the status of Fellow of the Northeastern Gnathological Society where is a member of the Board of Directors. He is an Active Member of the Academy of Osseointegration which is the foremost organization dedicated to implant dentistry. He is a Sustaining Member of The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and is currently perusing accreditation with The American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry. In addition, he is a Master Dental Technologist and member of the American Society of Master Dental Technologists. He is also a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association.
