He took a chance and inserted a filling into my back molar without a root canal when lack of symptoms such as bite down w/out pain supported what otherwise looked like a certain root canal. He did this a year ago and despite the huge cavity (it was a old filled silver that he had to remove which as you know requires removal of even more of the tooth). So far so good!
