VERY FRIENDLEY AND HELPFULL OFFICE, NEVER HAD A PROBLEM.
Avoid Dr. Merkler in Manasquan! My four year old son went in to have fillings. His teeth have very little to no enamel from severe reflux as a baby so he now needs multiple cavities filled.Against my request they did not give my son nitrous for sedation as he is very afraid and jittery at dentist. He also has sensory processing disorder which makes it more exaggerated for him. They simply “forgot to mark his sensory processing disorder & my request for nitrous on his chart”. Immediately after he goes back he starts screaming and crying asked the receptionist 3 times to check on him because i felt he was not okay. She assured me he was fine that this is “normal” for the second visit. Finally after third time of me saying he is not okay the dental assistant came out and said he’s moving around too much and they need to restrain him to finish. He Came out with broken blood vessels on neck & shoulders. Dentist wasn’t concerned said it my fault he had cavities& broke his capillaries crying.
My 4 year old nephew was physically injured while being restrained in this office for a routine filling. Staff was beyond incompetent-omitted his need /parents request for sedation, and never recorded his sensory processing disorder as a diagnosis on his chart. Dentist never gave the requested sedation, and attempted to fill a cavity on a 4 year old with a huge needle of lidocaine. When he became scared, agitated, + screaming, their solution was to restrain him to the point of him breaking blood vessels in his face, neck, and shoulders from straining to get free. They also refused to let his parent be chairside for support. When she heard his screams of distress, it took 3 attempts for desk staff to check on him. The “dentist” then attempted to blame his parent, stating” if a child has cavities we have to blame the parent and the amount of lidocaine given should have been sufficient”. No apologies, care, concern regarding the child- no explanation as why the right medication wasn’t given.
Love the whole staff especially Jennifer at the front desk..
