Best Dentist In City - Dr. Kalpana Kaveti, DMD

Keaau Family Health Center

My husband and I when first coming to Hawaii registered with Keaau Family Health to have immediate access to regular medical care since we both have health issues that need monitored on a regular basis. The biggest negative is it can take months to get an apt unless you are a regular monthly patient. Otherwise the only way to be seen is to be a walk in. I would recommend getting there before 7am if you try this. Now as far as the office help. The biggest problem my husband and I have had is with the scheduling and getting refills to medications. Scheduling - one example (and there has been several) for my husband. The doctor had originally written in his chart to see a physical therapist but notated that my husbands line of work provided more then enough physical strain and exercise for his knee and decided he didn't need to go. The next visit his MRI's had come back and the doctor wrote orders for him to see a pain management doctor. They didn't bother reading the records and Clara made him an apt with a therapist that doesn't even do physical therapy, she only does experimental therapy called prolo therapy. She didn't charge us for the office visit due to the mistaken apt. I am disabled and travel on this island takes forever and a day int he car really wipes me out physically. So it takes me alot to talk myself into going to a doctor. The doctor ordered some MRI's for me, but I didn't want them done in Hilo because that would entail me driving 300 miles in one day after taking my husband to work. Waaaaaaay to much driving. Because the same scheduler didn't want to deal with any companies outside of Hilo (simple phone calls) she actually tried to talk me out of getting the MRI's done. She stated medicare doesn't just do them because someone wants them. And I found myself having to explain my medical history to someone who really didn't need to know. And I ended up scheduling my own apts. I also scheduled my husbands surgeon apts just so he got the right one. If I didn't like the doctor so much I wouldn't even think twice about going somewhere else. But it is terribly hard with my medical history to establish relationships with a doctor. It is ok to go here, but really monitor what is going on with your records. Oh and if you call for refills, expect at least a 2 week turn around..
