How Patients Feel
POSITIVEPatient Reviews
5I saw Dr. Arvan about 3 years ago when I still lived in Fredericksburg and the visit left much to be desired. I was an independent college student who previously had no insurance and so I hadn't been able to afford a visit to the dentist in a couple of years. Dr. Arvan commented that I should've come in more often so I then explained the situation I had been in. His response was, "Well it's more expensive to fix the problems than to just pay for the cleaning so maybe you need to keep that in mind in the future." What a completely outlandish and ridiculous thing to say to someone - especially with the state that our healthcare system is currently in! Guilt-tripping patients is NOT the way to encourage them to come back and see you regularly and I decided right then and there that I would not be returning. If I remember correctly, I was also required to come in for a new patient exam that was not included with the cleaning which ended up unnecessarily costing me more money that I really didn't have at the time and which I've never been charged by another dentist. Fast forward to 2017 when I've moved to Charlottesville and graduated from college. I begin seeing a new dentist down here (who understands why I couldn't afford dental insurance during my 4th and final year of school) and request that Dr. Arvan's office send the records over to them. First, they take almost a week to return my call in the first place. Second, I send them all the information they ask for and it takes them ANOTHER week to get it to me. Here's the kicker with that: they tell me they need an email that authorizes them to send my info over to the new dentist but instead of actually sending it where requested, they only send it to me and it's only the x-rays. Let me reiterate - they send this information to ME instead of to the office as I requested (and for which I had included all the contact info including email address, street address, phone number, and fax number). I email the office manager back and ask if she sent the information over to my new office here in Charlottesville and she says it only went to me so I request she send the x-rays AND the chart information to the new office. She responds by sending a sheet of information from the e-record back to me instead of the office as requested. This office is poorly run and any time I hear someone considering going, I make sure to warn them against it.
