How Patients Feel

1Beware if you have United Concordia dental insurance - I have United Concordia dental insurance and visited a separate dentist in Columbia MD who was listed as In-Network per United Concordia's website. They proceeded to do a cleaning and told me they accept United Concordia but I first must call and get a referral from Dr Addick's. Dr Addick's office would not give a referral unless I came in for a visit. I'm not quite sure why they couldn't just call the dentist I went to, confirm my visit and issue the referral. What extra information could possibly come to light from seeing me in person vs just calling the dentist who saw me? Now I have to take more time off work, drive a 2 hour round trip, accrue another copay/bill, all so the insurance I pay for can be accepted by an in-network provider. Seems like they want to get some quick easy insurance money as opposed to doing the logical thing, i.e. call my dentist, confirm my visit, and issue a referral.
