4I went to see Dr. Shin to restore one of my old dental fillings in summer 2022. During the exams, Dr. Shin told me that one of my teeth had a cavity and in order for him to reach that area, he would need to drill deeper and install a new crown. Dr. Shin ensured me that my HMO plan doesn’t require a pre-approval and my copay portion is about 50% of the total cost. I paid close to $1.4K at the office per their request. When I received the EOB from my insurance, I was so shocked to find out that my total co-payment should have been slightly less than $400 (instead of close to $1.4K or an approx. 73% overcharge). I immediately contacted my insurance for investigation …. Finally, I received a Case Resolution Letter from my insurance indicating that they had determined Dr. Shin office had overcharged me close to $1K for all the works performed, and my insurance subsequently refunded me the money in about 30 days.
